Valletta is unlike anywhere else in Malta—or Europe. Built in the 16th century by the Knights of St. John after the Great Siege of 1565, it's a perfectly planned Renaissance city packed onto a peninsula between two harbours. Every street is steeped in history, every building tells a story, and the views from the Barrakka Gardens are simply breathtaking.

Living in Valletta is a unique experience. The city has undergone a renaissance of its own since being named European Capital of Culture in 2018. Trendy cafes, boutique hotels, and rooftop bars have opened alongside centuries-old churches and palaces. Yet it remains a working capital with government offices, courts, and the country's main bus terminus right at City Gate.

🏛️ Living in Historic Buildings

Most Valletta properties are centuries-old townhouses with thick limestone walls, high ceilings, and traditional Maltese balconies. While charming, this means quirks: steep stairs, no lifts, variable plumbing, and sometimes limited natural light. Renovated properties command premium rents. Look for apartments that balance historic character with modern amenities like air conditioning and updated kitchens.
